Franklin Canyon Hike Overview: Located a short 10 minute drive from the famous Rodeo Drive and the heart of Beverly Hills, Franklin Canyon Park features 8 miles of prime hiking trails and a 3 acre lake to explore. Deeply rooted in Hollywood history, Franklin Canyon has been featured in several Hollywood productions over the decades, including the opening credits to the Andy Griffith Show, Kindergarten Cop, Platoon, Rambo Part II and The Silence of the Lambs. Don’t worry! You don’t have to worry about spotting Hannibal Lecter in these trails!

Franklin Canyon is perfect for beginner hikers or families that want to experience an outdoor adventure together. The park features picnic tables and areas for family of all ages to relax. For more experienced hikers, Franklin Canyon Park features single track trails and offer a good incline and view of the Los Angeles area.

When to Go

Year-Round: Franklin Canyon Park is accessible year-round and closes at sunset. During the summer months, traffic to the park may increase. If you prefer less crowds, try exploring Franklin Canyon during the week or in the earlier Spring months. If you need to reserve a particular park amenity, such as an ampitheater, reservations can be made online.

Dog Friendly

Yes, dogs are permitted. However, they must be kept on leashes.

Barry-the-Bear: Franklin Canyon park rocks! I didn’t realize there could be so much open space in Los Angeles! Not only did the park offer incredible views of nature, I also enjoyed views beautiful homes.

Larry-the-Lion: I definitely recommend the loop to the reservoir and then return back to the dirt fire trail. Franklin Canyon Park is a perfect place to escape from the workday or workweek grind of Los Angeles and enjoy a moment in nature!

Chris-the-Cheetah: If I’m not able to venture to the Malibu Mountains, this is one of my favorite places for a trail run!
