Cedar Creek Falls Hiking Trail | San Diego Hikes
Cedar Creek Hiking Trail Overview: Located in the heart of San Diego backcountry, Cedar Creek Falls is an incredible 5.5 mile (roundtrip) hiking trail that ends at a beautiful swimming waterhole and waterfall. As the trail has become exteremly popular due to social media, a permit is required to hike Cedar Creek Falls. Permits are currently $6.00 for a party of 5 and are available online. Plan ahead, as permits typically sell out for each weekend day. IDs are required for each party member listed on the permit to enter the trail. Permits are checked at the entrance by rangers and local law enforcement.
The first half of the hike is downhill until you reach the falls. Follow the well marked and mainted trailhead and becareful of rattlesnacks, as we saw a few along the way. The size of the waterfall is spectacular and depending on the season the waterfall may be flowing. There are boulders in front of the swimming hole that are ideal to enjoy a picnic. The second half of the hike is pretty much uphill and mare require more time.

Cedar Creek is a perfect adventure for a 1/2 day or full trip to San Diego.
The hike is challenging, yet manageable enough for hikers of most experience levels. We felt exclusive with the trail permit and checking in with the ranger, as this process helped make the hike less crowded and that hikers were well informed for the elements. The swimming hole was refreshing and a perfect place for a picnic!
Make sure to plan ahead with enough food, water, towels, trash bag and a snake bite kit.
If you want to extend your time in Ramona after the hike, there is a local winery, Orfila Winery, close by and features local wine, an outdoor eating area and snacks.
